Turned from locally felled spalted sycamore from the Castlewellan area, this bowl shows the flowing lines and soft colour shifts that make spalted sycamore so distinctive. The dark, wandering patterns form slowly as the wood matures, giving each piece its own map‑like character — no two bowls ever look the same.
Sycamore has long been a familiar hardwood across Ireland, appreciated for its pale tone and smooth, fine grain. When spalting appears, it adds a touch of drama to an otherwise calm wood, creating a piece that feels both rooted in Irish woodland and full of natural expression.
Finished with a food‑safe natural oil, the bowl has a warm, tactile feel that highlights every detail of the grain. It works beautifully as a display piece, a centre feature, or simply as a unique bit of handcrafted Irish timber for the home.
