Lessons and Tryouts
I fell in love with woodturning several years ago, and what started as simple curiosity quickly grew into a real passion. I’m completely self‑taught, building Briarwood Turnings slowly over time and investing in the tools and equipment that allow me to create the pieces I make today. The journey has been full of trial and error — and plenty of error — but every mistake has taught me something valuable and pushed me to improve.
One of the things I enjoy most is meeting people who are interested in woodturning but aren’t sure where to begin. Regardless of age, experience, or confidence level, everyone is welcome. I have a full range of tools available for you to try, experiment with, and get a feel for. Whether you’ve never touched a lathe before or you’re already turning and want to explore new techniques, there’s always something to learn.
I offer relaxed, beginner‑friendly sessions that focus on the process, the possibilities, and the practical steps involved — from a freshly cut tree all the way to a finished piece. It’s very much a Q&A style conversation, covering tool use, safety, theory, and plenty of real‑world tips I’ve picked up along the way. If someone is looking for more formal or advanced training, I’m always happy to point them toward other experienced turners as well.
My goal is simple: to make woodturning accessible, enjoyable, and welcoming to anyone who wants to give it a try. If you’re curious, unsure, or just want to talk about the craft, you’re always invited.
